phpYtSite Status

General 13 Comments »

Hello!

I have lately been contacted by people concerned by my existence and health. Fortunately, I’m doing alright from this point of view :-) January has been traditionally for me the most busiest month at work, leaving me no spare time. This combined with the global stock market crashes kept me away from developing phpYtSite.

I think after mid February I will be able to come up with v0.2 hopefully following the proposed road map. Any new feature suggestions are welcome, just post them here ;-)

Merry Christmas!

Hello,

Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I’m not yet sure how I will spend the holidays, but probably away from the computer.
Anyway, if there are going to be update, here you will find them ;-)

Enjoy the holidays!

Preparing for v0.2

General 2 Comments »

Hey!

During the past 7 days I’ve been really busy at work and had little time to focus on phpYtSite. However, as the number of downloads increased, so did the feedback and suggestions.

Out of the variety of new features I will select a few to be included in the next planned release, v0.2. There are a few fixes which require more ample changes, which I think I won’t be able to release an intermediate download, so I will include as well into v0.2.

I will get back soon with the list of features I wish to include in v0.2 and the status.

See you around ;-)

Day 7: Reactions to phpYtSite

General 6 Comments »

Yep, one week ago I posted the announcement about phpYtSite on DigitalPoint forums. Later in the YouTube Google Group and eventually it has been approved on HotScripts.

The reaction had been much better than I expected as well as the number of downloads.

Besides positive feedback, I’m very pleased that a part of the visitors have involved more actively and provided more than comments: feature requests.

I have compiled a list of features to be added, I’m currently working on the next version, and depending on the time I will have to implement new features, I will also decide an appropriated version number.

Many thanks to all phpYtSite users and I’m looking forward to your feedback ;-)

Good luck!

phpYtSite v0.1.1 released

Releases 22 Comments »

Hey,

I must admit I have unintentionally ignored PHP 4 and there were a few issues in v0.1, first reported by topcash in the Digital Point Forums. Thanks topcash!

The lack of support for RFC 3339 time format (used in ATOM feeds) in PHP 4 caused strtotime() not to return the proper video upload date, rather it was defaulted to the beginning of the UNIX epoch.

A few more other compatibility issues discovered while playing on PHP 4 had been fixed and now there should be no other issues.

The new archive can be downloaded here.

Installation instructions can be found here.

If you upgrade from v0.1, make sure you backup config.php then just overwrite all files and remove install.php - that’s all!

How to schedule automatic updates

Support 6 Comments »

Updating phpYtSite can also be done automatically not just by using the option from the back-end.

This solution is targeting UNIX-like hosting platform where the webmaster has access to the cron task scheduling system. Not all web hosting providers allow access to this handy feature although 99% of them are having the cron daemon enabled and running.

phpYtSite v0.1 launched!

General 9 Comments »

As of today, December 2nd, phpYtSite is officially made public. I initially planned to launch it two days ago, however I found some small issues which required immediate fixing, and that’s why I delayed this event.

Since you’re reading this post, you are probably asking what’s the deal with this script. Well. here it goes: phpYtSite is a PHP script designed to create a standalone video website using syndicated multimedia content from YouTube. As of the first version the script achieves this goal, however there is room for optimization and much more features.

The script is designed in such manner to make it easy customizable, even with core code editing. phpYtSite is ready for production - I actually initially created it for a website of mine: Euro 2008 Videos.
